Here We Go Again!

Made some good progress for Opus 3. I think the smartest way to construct this model is from the ground up. Sounds logical, right? I was tempted to start with the pedal towers. However, I think it would make more sense starting from the foundation, and that's exactly what I started doing.

First things first, I cut stock for the keydesk assembly. This include everything below the Swell box.

I then focused my attention to the foundation. There are two "bases," a principal base and the base that everything will be glued to. The principal base is 7" x 9" and 1/2" thick. I added the 1/4" chamfer around the three sides. This proved most difficult as the blade on the table saw is really starting to dull, as you can tell from the burn marks. It's not worth it to purchase another blade at this point. I can make to. My saving grace was lubricating the blade throughout the entire operation.

Take a close look at the four holes and two pegs in the above photo. The farthest holes are for the two screws that start from the principal base and goes through blocks that will be positioned and glued to the inside of the model. I countersunk the bottom screw holes so that the head of the screw will not interfere with the model laying flat. The pegs are locating dowels for the principal base and the secondary base. they are diagonal from each other.

Last thing I did today was drill the holes for the stop jams. Simple and straightforward task.

That's it for now. Until next time...
